Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, and Teachers

The school held a special awards ceremony today for 10th and 12th Standard students who performed well on recent exams!  One of the board members of  Rising Star Outreach of India came as well, and he brought several friends and family members with him.  To see these students receive this kind of recognition was powerful.  When the board member addressed the students, he asked how many of them wanted to be doctors... engineers... lawyers... teachers...   And I watched as the hands shot up for each of these professions.

These are children who come from leprosy colonies.  These are children who were born into homes without enough money, food, clothes, resources... Homes without access to clean water.  Homes that offered the education of survival skills.  Yet here they are today, receiving honor for their academic achievements!  Here they are, dreaming of successful futures-- but not only dreaming... They are achieving their goals.

I am so proud of these students!  I am so grateful to be affiliated with such an honorable organization that brings life and hope to those who at one time were considered untouchable.  This school-- this entire organization-- is working miracles.  Let me rephrase that-- God is working miracles through this school.  He loves these children, as well as the families they come from.  He loves the teachers, medical staff, leaders, cooks, cleaners and even the field workers at Rising Star Outreach!  He wants all of them to be successful, and seeing these students be awarded today is evidence of that.

A glimpse of what the set up of the ceremony looked like

A closer up foto of the decorations :)

This is Jhangiri, and if you've ever seen Lion, this is reeeeeally similar to the special treat that the boy and the brother wanted to eat-- Jalebi!  Jalebi is thinner though and considerably sweeter.

Another Rangoli made by the students at Rising Start Outreach :)  They are so talented!!
