Keep In Touch

I held the folded up paper carefully in my hands.  I didn't want to crumple it in any way.  This one-page note had traveled around the world for a special someone, and I needed it to stay in the best shape possible!  As I waited for the intended recipient to arrive, I thought about how they might respond.  I hoped that they would remember-- I hoped they would remember the person who wrote them and that they would remember how special their relationship is!  For all I knew it had been 3 years since they had been in contact with one another.

Class started, and the note remained with me.  Where were they?  I had no choice but to set the written treasure aside when we got the class moving and dancing.  As time went on, I forgot about the note.  That is, until I saw her.

Eawari.  She came!  I hadn't noticed her enter the dining hall (she was definitely late to class though), yet there she was!  Although shy and rather reserved, she carried with her the typical smile that only Easwari could wear-- radiant and full of life.  Without thinking about what Susie was doing with the rest of the class, I instructed Eawari to stay where she was at, and I scurried off to grab the note!  (Side note:  I have never described myself as the scurrying type!  I guess I scurried today? haha)  With the gently creased page in hand, I returned to Easwari.  Carefully, I opened the page to show her the name signed at the bottom.

"Do you remember Kyla?"

"Yes, dance master-- yes!"  she replied, and her eyes became excited as she stared at the page.

"Good, I'm so glad!"  I exclaimed.  "She wrote you this letter one year ago, and it has finally made its way to you!"

Because we were in class I instructed her to put the note somewhere safe so she could read it later.  She seemed so giddy as she found the perfect temporary resting place for her new gift, and she carried herself with more confidence than I'd seen yet!

I don't know what the letter said, but just by knowing the person who sent it and the darling recipient, I know that it was full of love and fond memories.  As I have pondered this brief exchange, my thoughts have turned to the importance of keeping in touch.  I know I'm definitely far from perfect when it comes to keeping in touch... My dear friend in Hungary can attest to that!  I try so hard sometimes to up my game in the communication department, yet I still struggle to remind those far away from me of my love for them!  I hope that the sponsors and friends of these students at RSOI keep in touch.  I hope they never forget each other.  The students at RSOI are so precious, and they are worthy of the long-term support and friendship of those who sponsor them and teach them.

I invite anyone who reads this to reach out the the person or people you have thought of while you were reading this post.  I'm positive someone came to your mind that you could do better at keeping in touch with.  So take a minute and create a person little message for them.  Send it.  Send it today!  Better yet, call them if you can, or see them in person!  Whatever you do, do it fast before you forget or talk yourself out of it.  I promise you that you won't regret it, especially if you do it with love and genuine interest.

Thank you for reading!  Have a great day :)
